Cool PDX DJ Project
This was a personal project that took on a life of its own.
One day, just for fun, I decided to draw portraits of a few of my friends who happen to be DJ’s. The public response to this series was beyond my wildest expectations. People went crazy over seeing doodle versions of themselves and their friends. It drove a ton of traffic to my socials and I got so many portrait requests I had to start taking commissions.
The Way Out
Recently, I was approached by a Portland event promoter to create visuals for his popular event series, “The Way Out”
A Sunday afternoon outdoor dance party, The Way Out aims to bring together a racially diverse crowd through dancehall, Afro-beat and Hip-Hop music. The challenge was to create bright, fresh, and exciting promo materials that capture the feeling and vibe of dancehall.
For Inspiration, I looked to artists like M.I.A, Major Lazer, and Shabba Ranks
Dirtybird is arguably the most popular label in dance music today. I was lucky enough to be commissioned to do the admat illustration for the US tour of Sasha Robotti, one of their new artists. Sasha got on the phone with me and started laying out his post-apocalyptic visions of cyborg battle sloths and killer robots. I took notes, started sketching, and sent over the following illustration.
“Jason, this is the most on-brand art we’ve ever had. We love it!”
